Our client is a victim of domestic violence. She endured physical, social, emotional, psychological, and financial abuses in the hands of her husband/sponsor. As a housewife with limited English proficiency, she kept it all silently for quite some time. Last year, due to a physical violence by her sponsor, she finally chose to report it to the police and obtained an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO).
We informed the Department of Home Affairs of the breakdown of the spousal relationship and the AVO. Despite not having a final court order against the sponsor, the client successfully obtained permanent residency in one step by providing non-judicial evidence of domestic violence.
